TICK-TOCK…

Well, now that we are in October, the countdown to the big day really has begun. So far, everything seems to be going according to plan, and by that I mean I haven’t sustained any serious injuries (always a concern when training for this kind of event), and I’ve also managed to be fairly self-disciplined when confronted with cream-cakes, chocolate and McDonalds. The training is also on track, and the mileage I’ve covered this week can be seen in the table below:

I was hoping to attempt a long distance run Sunday but unfortunately, the weather wasn’t really fit for outdoor exercise. As I’m sure many of you are aware, typhoon number 17 (or typhoon Jelawat, as it was called in the UK and elsewhere) hit over the weekend, and to my amazement,  I could still see a small number of people from my balcony braving the strong winds and attempting (I stress the world “attempting” here) to run. To be honest, I’m not quite sure which word best describes these people – brave, dedicated or foolish. All 3 adjectives perhaps apply in this case. Despite that minor hiccup Sunday, the weather has been generally good lately, so fingers crossed this continues for the next few months or so.  I’ll be attempting a 15-20km this week (weather permitting), so I’ll record the details in my blog next week.

A little R & R…

As a family relative is visiting from the UK at the moment, I thought it’d be a good idea to take some time off work and spend a little more time with the family. The weather over the past week has been beautiful (not taking into account the typhoon that hit on Sunday of course), so we made the most of it by visiting areas of interest in and around Kobe. My daughter (personal trainer) was also happy to take a break from her busy schedule of eating and sleeping, and suggested that we spend some time in the park playing. I’m sure all you parents out there would agree that playing with young children can be quite exhausting at times! Honestly speaking, I felt a lot more tired that day than I usually do after completing a 10km run. I think this form of alternative exercise certainly made up for the run I missed on Sunday!
